Wow. The first game of the 2008 Stanley Cup Conference Finals is over. It was almost too painful to watch as the Dallas Stars got trounced by the Detroit Red Wings who won 4-1. The action at Motown’s Joe Louis Arena was basically all in favor of the Wings who took 31 compared to the Stars 21 shots on goal. I think Dallas’ defence failed to adequately protect their goalie Marty Turco but, ultimately, it was the Power Plays (as I predicted) that decided this game with the Wings scoring three times while the Stars were shorthanded. I think some of the seven calls against Dallas were a bit questionable but the game is over and now the Stars need to regroup and focus on Game 2 while the Wings have to keep their momentum going.
That’s the great thing about the playoffs… anything can happen.
