Big surprise… The Detroit Red Wings have captured the President’s Trophy for the 2007-2008 season which, I’m sorry, isn’t hard to do when you play the Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks for most of the season. Sorry, not impressed…

Here is something that might impress you…
The Red Wings overall record:
54-21-7
Record Versus Central Division:
17-12-3
Record Versus rest of the NHL:
37-9-4
Here is the Breakdown:
Record Versus NW Division:
15-2-3
Record Versus Pacific Division:
15-5-0
Record Versus Eastern Conference:
7-2-1
Your argument might hold some merit in years past, but as you can see from these stats, they have had significant trouble in the Central Division this season. Their record outside of the division is an unmistakenly impressive accomplishment.
Point well taken - for this season. Do you think, though, that playing against those teams is a confidence booster?
Not this year. Those teams have figured out how to play the Wings and have given them trouble all year. It was no surprise that the Wings had trouble with the Preds in the first round. It was a great opening round for the Wings in the fact that they were tested, faced some adversity, made the mental adjustments, and got back to playing the way they are capable of playing. In that sense, they did gain some confidence and momentum in the latter part of the series which has carried over to round two. But by no means did they underestimate any team in their division this season.
Chicago and Nashville will both make the playoffs next year.
your not impressed?
well they won the Stanley cup and thats all i have to say. yeah, im impressed, jealous bastard.
