Valtteri Filppula has signed a 5-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings worth $15 million. Wings GM, Ken Holland, had some nice things to say about the forward: “We love everything about him because he’s a complete player with great character, and we think he can get even better. He plays hard, he plays hurt. He’s got great speed and talent along with versatility because he can play left wing or centre.”
The mush-fest didn’t end there. Holland made it clear that Filppula won’t have to be a mega-star to feel the love – “The only thing no one knows is how good he can be. But even if he doesn’t become a 70-point scorer we think he might be, we’ll still love everything about him as a player and person.”
Honestly, at 24 years old, he’s got a lot of potential and I think that with a strong team like Detroit (where, obviously, he has a lot of support) he could really explode. I will be keeping my eye on him this season…
