Philadelphia Flyers left wing Patrick Thoresen was released from the hospital Saturday after tests revealed no serious injury from a shot that hit him in the groin. Yeah, in the groin! On Friday night when the Flyers were defeated by the Washington Capitals, Thoresen dove to block Mike Green’s shot on goal in the third and took one for the team right in the crotch! Worst part? The Caps ended up scoring why he was writhing around on the ice in pain. He’s had two ultrasounds on his boys.
“My groin area is sore and swollen,” Thoresen said in comments released by the team. “I can’t really walk properly right now. It hurts.”
Nothing ruptured, everything checked out and he may even get to play in today’s game. Thoresen did say this: “The chance is there because there is nothing wrong right now,” Thoresen said. “It’s just a matter of pain. Right now it doesn’t feel like I am ready to go because I am very sore. But I will keep icing the area today and keep trying to get the swelling down and we will see how I feel.”
At least he got a message from Green who wished him well and told him that he hoped everything was alright. If you are at all interested, here’s the footage:

I watched the game and saw the injury, but I had no clue it was his groin that got hit. All I can say is…ouch.
