Havelid Leaving NHL, Going to Sweden

It looks as though Niclas Havelid is leaving the NHL and is returning to his home country after signing a deal with Linkoping of the Swedish Elite League.  I’m guessing he made the decision after the New Jersey Devils were knocked out of the playoffs.

niclas havelid The blueliner, who was born in Stockholm, has probably made a smart decision.  Considering the fact that he is 36 years old and was set to become a free agent on July 1st, I’ll assume he was probably able to get a better deal in Sweden.

In 78 games this season (some with the Devils and also with the Atlanta Thrashers), he recorded two goals and 17 assists (and one in the postseason).

He was drafted 83rd overall (3rd round) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
