Yeah, I figured the Leafs were going to make some changes after that embarrassing a$$-kicking last night. Woooo that was bad! I am not a major fan of the Leafs but I almost had tears in my eyes. Here’s the story:
Forward Simon Gamache and rookie defenceman Anton Stralman were called up Wednesday by the Toronto Maple Leafs, 7-1 losers to the Carolina Hurricanes the night before.
Gamache, 26, will skate on a line with Matt Stajan and Darcy Tucker, who has yet to register a point this season.
Simon Gamache tries to score for the St. Louis Blues on Dec. 15, 2005.
Gamache, a native of Thetford Mines, Que., played for SC Bern of the Swiss Elite League last season and won the scoring title with 66 points (20 goals) in 44 games.
Gamache has played 37 games in the NHL, posting four goals and nine points for the Atlanta Thrashers, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues from 2002-06.
Atlanta drafted him in the ninth round (290th overall) in 2000.
The Maple Leafs hope Stralman will solidify a wayward defence that has surrendered a league-high 17 goals through four games.
The 21-year-old Swede was drafted in the seventh round (216th overall) by Toronto in 2005.
Alexei Ponikarovsky is probable for Thursday’s game versus the visiting New York Islanders, despite hurting his left leg in a collision with teammate Chad Kilger at practice.
Ponikarovsky skates with Nik Antropov and Boyd Devereaux, while Jason Blake and Alex Steen flank Mats Sundin on the top line.
