NHL Hockey Scores – October 21, 2008
What a night! The Toronto Maple Leafs went up against the Anaheim Ducks and it was such a close match that it went to a shootout. Here’s where things got ridiculous – Leafs coach, Ron Wilson, decided to pull goaltender, Vesa Toskala, and put in Curtis Joseph just for the shootout. It’s only been done four (five?) times in history and guess what? Including tonight, it has never worked! So stupid! You don’t put in a “cold” goalie for a shootout! Here’s the scoring summary:
- ANA: Beauchemin, F. (04:36 in 1st), Parros, G. (09:50 in 1st), Selanne, T. (00:00 in SO)
- TOR: Antropov, N. (08:15 in 2nd), Antropov, N. (19:07 in 3rd)

The Boston Bruins visited the Buffalo Sabres and lost 3-2. I think Sabres goaltender, Ryan Miller, was a big part of the victory since he managed to save 30 shots on goal in 65 minutes of play and allowed just one goal to get by him through five shootout rounds. Here is the scoring summary:
- BOS: Wideman, D. (10:57 in 1st), Kessel, P. (PPG, 11:48 in 2nd)
- BUF: MacArthur, C. (PPG, 13:33 in 2nd), Stafford, D. (05:48 in 3rd), Vanek, T. (SHG, 00:00 in SO)

The Columbus Blue Jackets hosted the Vancouver Canucks and were able to give their fans a 4-2 win. I was happy to see former Calgary Flames player, Kristian Huselius (Columbus), scoring on Canucks captain, Roberto Luongo. Good for him (and Luongo, ha ha). I hope Juice thrives on that team.
- VAN: Wellwood, K. (PPG, 07:55 in 1st), Bieksa, K. (05:01 in 3rd)
- CBJ: Chimera, J. (02:32 in 1st), Huselius, K. (PPG, 06:22 in 1st), Dorsett, D. (14:23 in 2nd), Nash, R. (19:41 in 3rd)

The Atlanta Thrashers headed down to the Tampa Bay Lightning where the Bolts managed to deliver a 3-2 win at home. Here is the scoring summary:
- ATL: Armstrong, C. (06:37 in 3rd), White, T. (19:24 in 3rd)
- TBL: Recchi, M. (07:18 in 1st), Prospal, V. (13:10 in 2nd), Lecavalier, V. (PPG, 01:41 in OT)

The Calgary Flames managed to break that third period curse that has been haunting them so far this season. For the first time, the Flames went into the third in the lead and managed to hold on until the end. I was surprised since I was expecting Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals to wipe the floor with Calgary but the Caps just kept giving up really stupid calls. Flames netminder, Miikka Kiprusoff, was exceptionally good and the team managed to stave off any scoring during a particularly brutal 9 minute power-play. Here is the scoring summary:
- WSH: Fedorov, S. (04:21 in 1st)
- CGY: Iginla, J. (PPG, 01:00 in 2nd), Lombardi, M. (02:42 in 2nd)
