A good number of hockey players along with some Hollywood stars will be skating at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on September 5, 2008 for the inaugural Festival Cup charity game.  The puck drops at 7pm as the two teams face-off to raise money for Right to Play, an international humanitarian organization.  Phoenix Coyotes coach and NHL legend, Wayne Gretzky, is the honorary chair of their advisory board and he discussed the importance of children having access to athletic programs: “In addition to keeping kids out of trouble and engaging them in a constructive activity, sports teach children many lessons and values including teamwork and determination. The Festival Cup is a great opportunity to help support the important initiatives of Right To Play.”

Some of the hockey players participating are:

  • Joe Thornton (San Jose Sharks)
  • Jason Spezza (Ottawa Senators)
  • Curtis Joseph (Toronto Maple Leafs)
  • Matt Stajan (Toronto Maple Leafs)
  • Robyn Regehr (Calgary Flames)
  • Mike Cammalleri (Calgary Flames)
  • Sean Avery (Dallas Stars)
  • Andrew Ference (Boston Bruins)
  • Doug Gilmour
  • Luc Robitaille

Some of the celebrities include:

  • Tim Robbins
  • Alan Thicke
  • D.B. Sweeney
  • Cameron Bancroft
  • Jason Reitman

You can get tickets to the event through Ticketmaster and the Air Canada Centre box office (on sale now!).  Anyone going?

  1. That sounds very interesting. A glamorous event is awaiting there. It will be very interesting to see how Hollywood stars play along with the professional hockey players. Obviously, the performance is not the main focus of the event.

    Thanks for the informative article.
