No Maple Leaf for Team Canada at Olympics

Hockey fans can say goodbye to Team Canada’s signature look.  The International Olympic Committee has ordered the Canadians to redesign their jerseys for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics because they display Hockey Canada’s logo (skater inside of a black and red maple leaf).  Apparently, Olympic teams can’t show their country’s sports federation logo on their jerseys.  What a weird rule…

“Within the context of Canadian sport there is no doubt that the Hockey Canada logo is iconic in Canada … as are the logos of many other sports within the framework of their sport environment as well,” said Chris Rudge, chief executive of the Canadian Olympic Committee.  “I know it’s an emotional issue for many people.”

Team Canada can still wear the iconic jerseys to events like the World Cup of Hockey but they will be sporting a different look at the 2010 games… That sucks, sorry.  I love those jerseys…
