Patrick Roy Turns Down Avalanche Coach Offer

Legendary goaltender (and Hall of Famer), Patrick Roy, has turned down the offer to become the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche. He explained that he had to make the decision based on what he 
felt was best for his family. "All I can say is that the Avalanche’s offer was more than interesting," Roy said. "My quality of life here in Quebec City is extraordinary. I adore this adventure, I adore working with youth. For me it’s a daily challenge — working to help these youths realize their dreams."
Currently, Roy has his hands full as the co-owner, general manager and coach of the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts. His son Frederic plays for the team but, like his older brother Jonathan, is considering giving up hockey.
I won’t lie, I’m very happy that he did not take the job. I’m happy to keep my good memories of Roy (and, as a native Montrealer, some conflicted memories too) preserved and intact. I wonder if, somewhere, Wayne Gretzky is wishing he’s done what Roy did.
