Pens Whitney Has Surgery on Left Foot

Ryan Whitney

Pittsburgh Penguins d-man Ryan Whitney had surgery on his left foot this weekend and will be out of the lineup when the 2008-09 NHL season begins.  Since it was done to repair a chronic problem and the recovery is a whopping three to five months, I can’t help but wonder why he didn’t have this done earlier in the summer since this will keep him benched until sometime in January 2009.  I guess it’s possible that he had to wait on a waiting list or something and I did read that he tried to find other options to avoid surgery but geez…

Last year, he posted 12 goals and 28 assistsin 76 games and added a goal and five assists in 20 playoff games.
