Pick Your 2008-2009 NHL Predictions

I’m still away on vacation and I will do my own predictions post closer to the start of the season but I found this interesting predictions video on YouTube for the upcoming 2008-2009 NHL season. I don’t think the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to finish first in the Eastern Conference like this guy predicts (I also think Tampa Bay will probably be better than 10th).
Anyway, leave me a comment and tell me what you think of these predictions and share any of your own.

hahaha, overrated are they now. people though that when the playoffs started last year because they were in a weak division, what happened there…oh and no i dont think they are 107 points, 2nd in the league in the best division in the league, all 5 teams have a playoff spot as of now so i wouldnt be calling them overrated. And last i checked devils have now lost…5 straight games???
The Caps are the team to beat..most talented, most firepower, youngest, fastest….It is a done deal.

I disagree. The playoffs are about defence, not explosive offence. The Caps have great young talent, but Theodore is too unpredictable a goalie. That’s why I’m pickin the Rangers to put them out in the first round. Lundqvist vs. Theodore, no contest. Sorry Ovie, it’s not happening this year.
Tommy O is absolutely correct!! King Henrik has a much better GAA and Theodore’s is only .900. The Rangers penalty kill was close to tops. All the Capitals have on defense is Mike Green who is more offensive than defense. Also, coaching wise, the Rangers have the greatest American born coach and also has a stanley cup under his belt. Also, the Rangers have won 3 in a row going into the playoffs. Looking forward to seeing fights like Avery vs. Brasher. King Henrik Lundqvist will be on top of his game. If the Rangers can stop the Caps offense, Rangers in 6/7.

not to be a jerk but i think the caps kinda suck…if they didnt have ovie that wouldnt be where they are right now and i think he is the only thing that is carrying them this far

Think about this. The caps have 4 players in the top 25 point getters in the NHL….and the scary part is that they are all under 24 years of age. Second Alexander Semin was out for 25 games this year and still is ranked near the top. Had he not been injured he would probably lead Malkin at the top. The other teams are mere pretenders to the crown.
Scott is right, the central division is having a strong year ….. also the race for the P’s trophy is great right now, keep in mind the B’s have a game in hand on both the sharks and wings….
p.s. I hope in the 1st round the B’s play the Habs and the Devils play the Rangers just to keep the rivalries fresh!
i was kidding but k. i know the devils hit a rough spot at the wrong time but come playoff time brodeur will be at the top of his game.red wings will make it to the west finals and get RAPED by the sharks.

David, your right the Capitals are young and talented which will allow them to make a run at the cup this year espeacially because of Ovechkin. However they are not the team to beat, there are at least three teams above them to beat San Jose, Boston, and Detroit. In the east, the Bruins have plenty of youth as well as the caps, with guys like kessel, Bergeron, Kobasew,Krejci, Wheeler, Lucic etc. Also the Bruins are the only team in the NHL with seven 20 or more goal scorers(kessel, savard, rechi, krejci, wheeler, kobasew, and Ryder)…and don’t forget about Thomas in net as unorthedox as he is, he stops pucks. We will just have to find out come April 15th!
The Caps are goof but people keep forgetting about the young BLACKHAWKS.. Khabi is going to be stellar in net, If the Hawks make it past Vancouver.. People better watch out.. The Hawks have the firepower, speed and skilled players to carry them a long way this year.. Im predicting that they CAN make it to the western conference finals.. If they keep home ice advantage early.. From there, you never know! GO HAWKS!
CAPS ARE GOING ALL THE WAY BECAUSE THEY HAVE OVECHKIN 2ND IN POINTS BACKSTOM 10TH IN POINTS SEMIN 31 IN POINTS AND GREEN THE BEST DEFENSE MEN THIS YEAR MAYBE THE BEST DEFENSMEN IN HISTORY
Sorry Tim, but it’s a team sport and you need more than just one awesome player to win a cup. The Caps will be lucky to make it out of the first round.
The Penguins are the hottest team right now. I don’t see anything getting in there way to the finals, after that, it’s a crap shoot with the West.
The bruins have to be the team to beat from the east, they’re young, have solid defense and have tim thomas. I think the addition of recci should propel them with the much needed experience and the habbs really stand no chance in my opinion, especially with price still in net, hes inconsistent young and i expect him to choke again. Thomas vs. price, no contest. Caps could be the best if they had a consistent goalie which they do not. Devils could go down in the first round… pit vs phili is a toss up in my opinion.
I think detroit will come out of the west, same team as last year plus hossa, if anything its the lack of a solid goalie as Osgood, in my opinion, might choke. I personally would love to see the hawks play the bruins in the finals, both young up and coming teams. sharks could do it but i dont expect to see it… but possibly.
It should be some fun to watch.
Pittsburgh doesn’t have a goalie.. Marc Andre? hes been ok at best this year, not good enough. and the blues have had a much better second half and Carolina is the hottest team.
Green best defensmen ever? you joking? not even the best defensmen of the year. Chara? he plays d, ok he doesn’t have as many goals but what part of the word defense talks about goals. He played almost half of what chara and cant nearly match up to players like ovechkin like chara… if they really look at the best DEfensmen of the year it will be chara.
pittsburgh doesnt have a goalie What!!! you must be joking marc andre fluery is a great goalie. if you say that you must have never played goalie because he is a good goalie

How can they not win it. With Hossa, Datsyuk, and Zetterburg they’re unstoppable. Also with 4 solid lines. Being that the 4th line scores a lot too. They have a very good chance of winning it all.
I dont think the red wings will make it to be honest! i think Vancouver and New Jersey! at first i said calgary but they wont get past the hawks! canucks hve everything that it takes to make it to the finals! good offense, one of the best, if not the best, defence! and the best, well tied with brouder but luongo is the hottest rite now, in the leage and henrik and daniel hve somethin to prove so they will play their hearts out! it will be ‘Nucks vs Hawks Van in 7! and Boston vs New Jersey Jersey in 6! then Van vs NJ Van in 7!

Wings are going to take it again. They have it all, they are the most complete team. They managed to take second in the West, third in the league with sloppy goaltending. Watch Ozzie stand on his head for the playoffs and nobody can beat us! Back to back champions again!!

Ya i agree with Jonny, I think its gotta be the wings….their biggest competition would have been the sharks and doesn’t look like they’ll get past the ducks. Osgood is playing amazing, i know some people will say he strugled that last game but he obviously wasn’t 100%, now with 7-8 days off look for him to recover and look like he did last year and the first 3 games of the series. And the wings took that series with ease, and to think cleary is the second leading scorer in playoffs for them, just wait until datsyuk, hossa and zetterberg catch fire, could be scary. Look for a rematch of last years finals as i think pittsburgh has what it takes, they are a much stronger team than carolina who is giving the devils a tough time. Wings and pens in the finals…wings in 6.

Hello???? Pittsburgh Penguins will definitely win it all. They have Jordan Staal, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, Chris Kunitz and Billy Guerin all on offense. Plus Gonchar, Orpik, and Eaton on D. And Marc-Andre Fluery: a young talented goaltender. They have it all going for them
Dude, the Pens won’t make it past Boston.
Carolina has beaten 3rd seed NJ. We now have to get past the surging Bruins. I think that although many people underestimate the canes, they still have a lot of heart and work ethic and are physically fit. My prediction for the Canes Bruins series is Canes in 7. Go ahead and laugh, but we have upset many teams before and if Ward keeps playing like he is, we have a pretty decent, yet very tough chance to get by.
I predict that the Caps will beat the Pens in 7, and Vancouver will take the Hawks in 6.
In terms of the playoff finals.. I say Wings in 5. They are an unstoppable force this year yet again. I would personally love to see a rematch finale with the Canes and Wings.

Good day hockey fans,Let’s start in the east,Look for Boston to beat the canes in 6 and i don’t think it really matters who wins between the caps-pens Boston will beat either one of them.In the west look for the hawks to beat the canucks in 7 and for all of you non wings fans the talk around the NHL all season has been about the Sharks on how good they are on this and that I’m so glad they’re gone i knew they weren’t for real,Good teams find ways to win and the wings find ways to beat you,The only team that comes close to them is the hawks,It would be great to see a wings -hawks series that one would be hard to pick,The hawks are close but I’d pick the wings in 7,so it’s Boston and the wings in the cup finals look for the wings to win in 7.
