Simon Gagne Out With Third Concussion

The Flyers' Simon Gagne has missed more games this season than he's played because of repeated concussions. The Philadelphia Flyers were forced to put Simon Gagne on the injured reserve list after he sustained his third concussion of the season on Sunday.  The other concussions had sidelined him for 30 games already!

“I don’t think the season is lost right now,” Gagne said. “Hopefully, I’m not going to have any more symptoms coming up. The way I feel right now is just a balance problem. When this goes away, I will be pretty much symptom free.”

It’s possible he could come back since the team doctor assessed Gagne’s concussion as being “mild.”

“I feel so-so. I am not feeling quite right. I am feeling a little bit off balance,” Gagne told the Flyers’ official website. “It could be a couple of days, it could be a week or it could be longer. There is no time frame on what is going on right now.”

Gagne said his injuries were not comparable to those of former Flyers Keith Primeau and Eric Lindros, whose careers were ended by a series of concussions.

“Those guys had a hard time waking up in the morning and had a hard time responding physically,” he said. “In my case, I don’t think that this is a problem. I feel like I am more off-balance today but physically, I feel fine.”

It’s pretty rough to get so many concussions in a season and, to be honest, I can’t help but worry about it.  There’s been so many reports in the media about athletes going to far with brain injuries so I hope Gagne takes it easy and doesn’t rush his recovery.
