Simple Plan’s Hockey Theme Cover - Love it or Hate it?

Until literally 5 minutes ago, I avoided listening to Simple Plan’s cover of the former Hockey Night in Canada theme song. Listen to it and then we can talk:
I’ve got a couple reasons for not listening to this weeks ago. The first is that I’m still not over CBC losing the rights to the song. Secondly, I really don’t like Simple Plan (yeah, I said it). Third, I’m just pissed. Is this was friggin’ CTV wanted the song for? So it could ask Canadian bands to redo it over and over again?! The Barenaked Ladies are next with a “banjo-driven” bluegrass inspired version. What the hell? Why not just leave it where it was and let us HNIC fans enjoy it for another million years? I know there was problems with CBC and the song’s creator but I’m sure they would have had to work out something if CTV hadn’t swooped in.
Oh, how do I feel about this cover of the theme song? Meh. It’s nothing special to me. Nothing will ever be as good as the original…
