In an overtime thriller, the Detroit Red Wings successfully won their second home game over the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 Western Conference Finals.
I know it was a loss for the ‘Hawks but I still think they played a very good game. It was a tough one but, in the end, Mikael Samuelsson scored 5:14 into overtime to give Detroit the 3-2 victory.
It just shows what kind of stamina a well-trained and disciplined team like the Red Wings can deliver despite the fact that their legs must be pretty tired at this point (they played for the fourth time in …read more

What a crazy game!!! I was hoping that the Anaheim Ducks would rebound after being beat by the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of this second round and they did not disappoint. The two most recent Stanley Cup champions battled hard, matching goal for goal until it was all decided in third overtime, making this the longest playoff game so far this year!
I think both the Red Wings and the Ducks put a huge amount of effort into the game tonight but I do want to say that Detroit goaltender, Chris Osgood, didn’t seem to be on his game …read more
Detroit Narrowly Beats Anaheim in Game 1

This was a much closer game than I was expecting. The Detroit Red Wings hosted the Anaheim Ducks in Game 1 of the second round and a lot of people were thinking it was going to be a bloodbath but the Ducks showed some grit.
The score was only 3-2 which signals, to me, that both teams had to really work hard. Truly, I think that if Niklas Lidstrom had not played so well last night, Anaheim might have won the game. Lidstrom came through for his team by scoring his second goal of the night with just 49.1 seconds left. …read more

Never in a million years did I think I would be cheering on the Anaheim Ducks but I want them to create a huge upset in this first series of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Ducks barely made it into the playoffs and they are dominating the San Jose Sharks (who had the best record in the league this season) with a 3-1 lead in the series.
All Anaheim needs is one more win to eliminate the Sharks. I can’t believe I’m even writing those words. It’s not every day that the #8 seeded team takes out the #1 …read more
Brodeur Shuts Out Canes, Devils Win

Martin Brodeur continued his journey into the NHL history books by tying the NHL playoff shutout record (23) set by the legendary Patrick Roy. He displayed some goal tending that was brilliant and even manic, at times. At one point, he didn’t have a stick and the puck was going wide but he still launched his body to make sure the Carolina Hurricanes had zero chance of scoring. Amazing.
The Hurricanes definitely tried everything they could to score on Brodeur, who had to make 44 saves. His counterpart, Cam Ward, also came up big (41 saves) but it just wasn’t enough …read more
Philadelphia Beats Pittsburgh in Shutout

If the Pittsburgh Penguins were shocked when the Philadelphia Flyers beat them 6-3 in Game 3, I’m sure they were positively stunned to be shut out by them tonight.
The Flyers beat the Penguins 3-0 last night and sent the message that they are far from being completely out of this series. The only goal that the Pens scored was disallowed after it was determined that Evgeni Malkin kicked it into the back of the net.
Flyers goaltender, Martin Biron, stopped all 28 shots that he faced while Penguins netminder, Marc-Andre Fleury, only managed to turn away 23 of the 26 shots …read more
