Boston Bruins Sign Derek Morris

The Boston Bruins are busy building up their defensive line up after shipping Aaron Ward to the Carolina Hurricanes. The club has signed Derek Morris to a one-year deal worth $3.3 million.

During his 10 year career in the NHL, he has played for the New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames while splitting his 75 games last season between the Rangers and the Coyotes.  He had five goals and 15 assists.

NY Rangers Acquire Morris from Coyotes

The Phoenix Coyotes have sent defenceman, Derek Morris, to the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Dmitri Kalinin and forwards Nigel Dawes and Petr Prucha.
Morris will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2009. The 30-year-old player has five goals and seven assists in 57 games.  It will be interesting to see how he works with Rangers coach, John Tortorella.
