]]> With the Eastern and Western Conference Finals are well underway, TSN took a look at the Top 10 plays from the semifinals and, I don’t know about you but I always love these highlight reels.

Here are the plays that TSN selected as the best of the semifinals.  Do you agree with them?  I do for the most part.  If there’s one that you think is missing, let me know!

#10 – Check out the amazing goaltending of Carolina Hurricanes’ netminder, Cam Ward, who shuts the door on the Boston Bruins!

#9 – Ryan Getzlaf (ANA) will not be denied by Chris Osgood (DET).

#8 – Sergei Samsonov (CAR) slips one past Tim Thomas (BOS).

#7 – Vancouver Canucks’ blueliners rally and beat Nikolai Khabibulin (CHI).

#6 – Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg, Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen tic-tac-toe it into Anaheim’s net.

#5 – Marc-André Fleury (PIT) completely robs Alexander Ovechkin (WSH)

#4 – Chicago’s Boland scores an awesome short-handed goal on Roberto Luongo (VAN).

#3 – Patrick Kane (CHI) makes an unbelievable drive to Vancouver’s net and scores the goal!

#2 – Netminder, Roberto Luongo, makes a nearly impossible save.

#1 – Simeon Varlamov (WSH) makes what might hold up as the best save of the playoffs when he denies an almost sure shot by Sidney Crosby (PIT).

]]> The Anaheim Ducks are not giving up and they proved that last night as they faced elimination in Game 6 against the Detroit Red Wings.  Both teams were physical (which you really don’t see too often from the Red Wings) and you could tell that this was an intensely played game.

The game remained scoreless through the first period and then the Ducks scored on a power-play in the second and the entire feel of the match changed.  By the end of the second, they had a 2-0 lead (that second goal by Perry was downright insane).  Johan Franzen scored the lone for Detroit on a power-play in the third period.

Again, Ducks goalie, Jonas Hiller, was spectacular because the Red Wings definitely tried to win this game but he came up big for his team.  If it wasn’t for him, Pavel Datsyuk would have tied this game with less than 10 seconds left in the game.  He finished with 38 saves while Detroit netminder, Chris Osgood, turned away 26 shots.

A brawl erupted with Ryan Getzlaf going after Marion Hossa and Corey Perry sending a message to Brian Rafalski and it really set the tone for Game 7 which takes place tomorrow night in Motown.  Check out the highlights:

]]> The New Jersey Devils won the first game in the series against the Carolina Hurricanes.  Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise led the 4-1 victory for the Devils, posting a goal and an assist each with Mike Mottau and Patrick Elias rounding out the scoring.  Ray Whitney scored the lone goal for the Canes.

I am not surprised.  This is one of those series that I think will continue to be unbalanced until it is over.  The Hurricanes have made the playoffs but I’m not sure they have their game at a level that will allow them to advance to the next round.

]]> The NHL has put out the “Best of the Week” highlights for last week and, again, you can see that some teams are really pushing up their efforts in order to secure a spot in the playoffs.  One of my favorite goals was by Alex Tanguay (Montreal Canadiens) against the Atlanta Thrashers but then there were incredible shots by Ales Hemsky (Edmonton Oilers), TJ Oshie (St. Louis Blues) and the Sedin Sisters (Vancouver Canucks).

Honestly, with everyone playing the way they have been lately, it’s not only going to be tough to predict a playoff winner, it’s also going to be hard to pick which games I watch.  As much as I hate the admit it, the Canucks have been pretty exciting.

]]> Today’s video featuring the best plays across the NHL last week kicks off with several plays from the Detroit Red Wings @ Dallas Stars game that basically show the difference in the goaltender during the matchup.  You gotta feel for Stars goalie, Marty Turco, who is really having a less than stellar year meanwhile Wings’ netminder, Chris Osgood, delivered some nice saves.

Speaking of which, my favorite save from this set of highlights is the one by Cristobal Huet (Chicago Blackhawks) who truly robs the St. Louis Blues.

]]> Jason Arnott might have been out of the lineup for a short time with an injury but he wasn’t showing any signs of strain tonight as he scored 2 goals to help lift the Nashville Predators over the Carolina Hurricanes.  He wasn’t the only Pred to put in a double effort – Shea Weber also contributed 2 goals in the 5-2 victory. 

I have to talk about the first goal of the night.  J.P. Dumont fed a pass across the crease to Arnott and it was just a sweet, sweet goal.  Arnott’s second goal really should have been saved by Cam Ward who, at times, seemed to be struggling (he ended up making 25 saves, though). 

What are your thoughts about Weber as a contender for the Norris Trophy?  If he keeps playing like he did tonight, I can’t imagine him not deserving it.

]]> What a game for the New Jersey Devils!  I have to admit that I was worried about them when their star goaltender, Martin Brodeur, was placed on the injured reserve and had surgery to repair his bicep but the team’s 4-game winning streak has shown their strength and determination and I’m really impressed (so far). 

In tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Devils clearly dominated over the struggling team with a 7-3 victory.  The game was all but decided with New Jersey up 5-0 when Radim Vrbata made the first goal for the Bolts, followed by a sweet one from Martin St. Louis and finally a successful penalty shot by Gary Roberts.

The real star of the night, however, was Dainius Zubrus (Devils) who scored four of the seven goals for his team.  The most amazing part?  He only made 8 shots so half of them went in!  Incredible!

]]> Here are some of the best plays from last week across the NHL.  I am not a huge fan of Roberto Luongo (goalie, Vancouver Canucks) but I have to admit that he made an incredible save!  There were several good clips from the Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators game (I don’t even want to look at the highlights from the Montreal Canadiens/Toronto Maple Leafs game) and, of course, I loved the saves that Calgary Flames netminder, Miikka Kiprusoff made (too bad his team sucked majorly last week for the most part).
