New Jersey Creates “Martin Brodeur Day”

New Jersey Devils goaltender, Martin Brodeur, is going to be honored in a very special way – the New Jersey State Senate will be celebrating “Martin Brodeur Day” tomorrow (June 18, 2009) in a special ceremony at the State House.
"On behalf of the entire Senate, we’re proud to honor Marty Brodeur as our ‘adopted son,’ said Senator Richard Codey. "He has kept Devils fans entertained for nearly 20 years and given our state something to be proud of. He’s a first-rate athlete who can now claim the distinction of being in a league of his own."
I can understand why …read more

Devils Lose, Brodeur Freaks Out

Devils Lose, Brodeur Freaks Out

The New Jersey Devils lost to the Carolina Hurricanes with 0.2 seconds left in Game 4 and it was not without controversy.  Of course, it is heartbreaking to lose a game with so little left in regulation but it was how the game was won that caused all the trouble.

With less than 10 seconds left in the tied game, Jussi Jokinen tried to take a shot on goal but the puck ended up circling around to Joni Pitkanen who passed it to Dennis Seidenberg, who then launched a hard blast from the point.  Jokinen was there to deflect it …read more

New Martin Brodeur “Records” T-Shirt

If you were as excited as I was about New Jersey Devils goaltender, Martin Brodeur, breaking the record for most career wins by an NHL netminder (previously set by the great Patrick Roy) then you might want to check out this shirt.

The “Records” t-shirt is available from the NHL Shop and is made of cotton and has a comfortable crew neck collar. It’s the perfect shirt for fans who want to pay tribute to Brodeur and his history-making career.

Martin Brodeur Sets Record for NHL Goalies

Last night, Martin Brodeur put himself in the history books by winning his 552nd NHL hockey game and passing the record for most wins by a goaltender which was previously set by Hall of Famer, Patrick Roy (who was also Brodeur’s idol).  How fitting to pass the record on St. Patrick’s Day!
The 3-2 victory came against the Chicago Blackhawks.  It was a relatively close game and, with just seconds left, Chicago forward, Troy Brouwer, actually took a shot on Marty but he spotted it and kicked out his right pad to deflect it.  It was his 30th save of the …read more

Brodeur Gets Shutout in Triumphant Return!

OUT-RA-GEOUS.  That’s all I can say.  I am totally stunned but not at all surprised by the amazing comeback of New Jersey Devils goaltender, Martin Brodeur.  Tonight, in his first game in almost four months, he shut out the visiting Colorado Avalanche with a final score of 4-0.  Watch the highlights:

If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you’ll know that I was crushed when it was announced that Brodeur would be out of the lineup for months after having surgery to repair torn bicep muscles.  At the beginning of the season, I was excited by the idea …read more

Brodeur Will Return Tonight Against Colorado

Martin Brodeur will be between the pipes tonight for the New Jersey Devils as they host the Colorado Avalanche.  This will be his first game in nearly four months after he had surgery to repair torn biceps.
"We do something pretty cool playing hockey, so I am excited every game to play," Brodeur said. "But definitely there is a little more emphasis on this. I have not played in a long time and I want to get out there and see how it goes."
"Until something is taken away from you, you don’t appreciate it," Brodeur said. "I think it …read more

Brodeur Practicing with New Jersey Devils

I’m so happy! Martin Brodeur has begun practicing with the New Jersey Devils.  It’s the first time since November 2008 and the star goaltender could be ready to play in an actual game sometime in the next 10 days.
Of the practice that lasted about 20 minutes, Brodeur said "I wasn’t nervous.  I was anxious to get going and see the shots and the speed of the guys. It’s different than drills when guys are coming at high pace."
I’m hoping this means that Marty will be back in the game before the end of the month.

Martin Brodeur Has Been Skating!

Martin Brodeur Has Been Skating!

For the first time since since tearing a tendon in his left bicep, New Jersey Devils goaltender, Martin Brodeur, has been up and skating.  They are saying that his recovery is on-schedule and might be healthy enough to rejoin the team before March 1st (his original projected return date).  This is good news!
I was absolutely crushed when, after having such a great start to the season, Brodeur needed surgery to repair the injury.
Fortunately, the Devils did not fall apart in his absence.  They currently have a record of 29-15-3 in 47 games.

Devils Put Sixth Player on Injured Reserve

Wow.  The New Jersey Devils are shaping up to look like the contestants on this season of Dancing with the Stars since everyone keeps getting injured.
So, with the addition of defenseman, Paul Martin (upper back soreness), the Devils have 6 men on the IR list.
He joins goalie Martin Brodeur (surgery on biceps), centers Brian Rolston and Bobby Holik, winger Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and defenseman Andy Greene.
Not good….
