]]> I was on NHL.com and I spotted the video for the best plays from last week.  I don’t want to sound like a broken record but things have really been intense with the playoffs starting next week and people are just putting in the extra effort.  The goaltenders, in particular, are just pulling out all the stops and standing on their heads.  It is really amazing and makes me love this sport that much more.

Watch these incredible plays.  My favorite highlight was from the St. Louis Blues @ Chicago Blackhawks game when Toews (CHI) tries to score, Mason (STL) makes the save, Tkachuk (STL) takes the puck and skates to the other net and is rejected by Khabibulin (CHI).

]]> The NHL has put out the “Best of the Week” highlights for last week and, again, you can see that some teams are really pushing up their efforts in order to secure a spot in the playoffs.  One of my favorite goals was by Alex Tanguay (Montreal Canadiens) against the Atlanta Thrashers but then there were incredible shots by Ales Hemsky (Edmonton Oilers), TJ Oshie (St. Louis Blues) and the Sedin Sisters (Vancouver Canucks).

Honestly, with everyone playing the way they have been lately, it’s not only going to be tough to predict a playoff winner, it’s also going to be hard to pick which games I watch.  As much as I hate the admit it, the Canucks have been pretty exciting.

]]> With playoff fever sweeping across the NHL, the on-ice id definitely heating up.  These “plays of the week” packages are getting better and you can see that the players are very determined to fight for a spot in the postseason.  Of course, there is a clip from when Martin Brodeur (New Jersey Devils) became the NHL goalie with the most wins in history (beating the record set by the great Patrick Roy).

Make sure you see the goal made by Martin Havlat (Chicago Blackhawks) around the 4:45 mark.  He leaps across the ice and takes a shot in mid-air and scored against the Edmonton Oilers.  You’ve got to see it to believe it.

]]> The NHL goals of the week kick off with a breakaway goal from center ice when Kyle Turris (Phoenix Coyotes) beats goalie Dan Ellis (Nashville Predators) and end with that crazy goal by Carolina Hurricanes defenceman, Joe Corvo, who gets knocked down only to get up and weave his way all the way to the net where he slips the puck right past Tomas Vokoun (Florida Panthers).

]]> There were some sweet goals last week and the NHL has put together a collection of what they think are the Top 10.  Anyone know how they decide who gets included?  Anyway, here is the list from last week:

10. Sidney Crosby is left open long enough to patiently feed a pass to Mark Eaton (his first goal in 91 games) and scored on the New York Rangers.

9. Mike Richards (Philadelphia Flyers) makes an incredibly easy-looking short-handed goal on the Carolina Hurricanes.

8. Alexander Frolov (Los Angeles Kings) just walks right up and scores on the Toronto Maple Leafs after a gorgeous pass from Matt Greene.

7. Martin Havlat (Chicago Blackhawks) ties the game with the Anaheim Ducks

6. Martin Hanzal (Phoenix Coyotes) gets a short-handed goal on the Toronto Maple Leafs and scores a hat-trick

5. Mike Richards (Philadelphia Flyers) scores on the Tampa Bay Lightning after a sick pass from Kimmo Timonen

4. The Tampa Bay Lightning almost deserve as much praise as David Krejci (Boston Bruins) for his short-handed goal on them

3. Sean Donovan (Ottawa Senators) plucks up the puck and just weaves his way to a great goal against the Atlanta Thrashers

2. Andrei Kostitsyn (Montreal Canadiens) scores a great goal after a picture-perfect play against the New York Rangers

1. This spectacular goal by Chicago Blackhawks star, Jonathan Toews, deserves to be in the top spot from last week.  He made the Detroit Red Wings look like they were standing still.
