Caps Gets Shut Down Again by Rangers

Caps Gets Shut Down Again by Rangers

The Washington Capitals were not only shut down by the New York Rangers during the second game in their series but they were also shut out.  Honestly, I was expecting a bigger battle from the matchup and I am beginning to wonder if I’m ever going to see one.

The loss serves the team right after pulling goaltender Jose Theodore from the starting lineup for no good reason.  Instead, they chose to put a barely used rookie between the pipes and I hope it taught them a lesson.  Don’t get me wrong, despite being a native Montrealer, I’m not Theodore’s biggest …read more

NHL Best of the Week – March 31, 2009

The NHL has put out the “Best of the Week” highlights for last week and, again, you can see that some teams are really pushing up their efforts in order to secure a spot in the playoffs.  One of my favorite goals was by Alex Tanguay (Montreal Canadiens) against the Atlanta Thrashers but then there were incredible shots by Ales Hemsky (Edmonton Oilers), TJ Oshie (St. Louis Blues) and the Sedin Sisters (Vancouver Canucks).
Honestly, with everyone playing the way they have been lately, it’s not only going to be tough to predict a playoff winner, it’s also going to be …read more

NHL Best of the Week – January 20, 2009

Today’s video featuring the best plays across the NHL last week kicks off with several plays from the Detroit Red Wings @ Dallas Stars game that basically show the difference in the goaltender during the matchup.  You gotta feel for Stars goalie, Marty Turco, who is really having a less than stellar year meanwhile Wings’ netminder, Chris Osgood, delivered some nice saves.
Speaking of which, my favorite save from this set of highlights is the one by Cristobal Huet (Chicago Blackhawks) who truly robs the St. Louis Blues.

NHL Best of the Week – January 13, 2009

Here are the highlights from last week across the NHL.  They used to have separate videos for best goals, saves, hits and plays but now they just have it all in one.

Red Wings Beat Blackhawks 6-4 at 2009 NHL Winter Classic

The 2009 NHL Winter Classic went off without a hitch today and the rink looked amazing!  The Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field 6-4 today.

I had a lot of fun watching it but I had to keep reminding myself that this was an outdoor game because the rink and visual clarity (over last year’s snow-fest) was just perfect.  Watch the highlights:

Here’s the scoring summary:
DET: Samuelsson, M. (PPG, 09:50 in 1st), Hudler, J. (01:14 in 2nd), Hudler, J. (12:43 in 2nd), Datsyuk, P. (17:17 in 2nd), Rafalski, B. (PPG, 03:07 in 3rd), Lebda, B. (03:24 in …read more

Arnott, Weber Lift Predators Over Hurricanes

Arnott, Weber Lift Predators Over Hurricanes

Jason Arnott might have been out of the lineup for a short time with an injury but he wasn’t showing any signs of strain tonight as he scored 2 goals to help lift the Nashville Predators over the Carolina Hurricanes.  He wasn’t the only Pred to put in a double effort – Shea Weber also contributed 2 goals in the 5-2 victory.
I have to talk about the first goal of the night.  J.P. Dumont fed a pass across the crease to Arnott and it was just a sweet, sweet goal.  Arnott’s second goal really should have been saved by …read more

NHL Best of the Week – November 11, 2008

Here are some of the best plays from last week across the NHL.  I am not a huge fan of Roberto Luongo (goalie, Vancouver Canucks) but I have to admit that he made an incredible save!  There were several good clips from the Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators game (I don’t even want to look at the highlights from the Montreal Canadiens/Toronto Maple Leafs game) and, of course, I loved the saves that Calgary Flames netminder, Miikka Kiprusoff made (too bad his team sucked majorly last week for the most part).

NHL Saves of the Week – November 6, 2008

There is some seriously good goaltending in this set of highlights.  I love saves more than anything, I think.  Tim Thomas (Boston Bruins) was a bit of a superstar last week, that group effort by the Florida Panthers when netminder, Thomas Vokoun, was caught out of the net was incredible and, of course, I loved the clip of Miikka Kiprusoff (Calgary Flames) making the save as he fell on his face.
It was Marty Turco (Dallas Stars), however, who made two frantic looking saves that really stood out for me.  It just serves as a reminder of why he’s one of …read more
