I was on NHL.com and I spotted the video for the best plays from last week.  I don’t want to sound like a broken record but things have really been intense with the playoffs starting next week and people are just putting in the extra effort.  The goaltenders, in particular, are just pulling out all the stops and standing on their heads.  It is really amazing and makes me love this sport that much more.

Today’s video featuring the best plays across the NHL last week kicks off with several plays from the Detroit Red Wings @ Dallas Stars game that basically show the difference in the goaltender during the matchup.  You gotta feel for Stars goalie, Marty Turco, who is really having a less than stellar year meanwhile Wings’ netminder, Chris Osgood, delivered some nice saves.
Speaking of which, my favorite save from this set of highlights is the one by Cristobal Huet (Chicago Blackhawks) who truly robs the St. Louis Blues.

Here are the top 10 saves in the NHL from last week.  My favorites were of Mike Smith (Tampa Bay Lightning) shutting down the Colorado Avalanche, Jaroslav Halak (Montreal Canadiens) denying Scotty Walker (Carolina Avalanche) and Andrew Raycroft (Colorado Avalanche) shocking the heck out of Henrik Zetterberg (Detroit Red Wings).

I love saves and, let me tell you, there are some good ones in here.  The goaltender that really stood out for me last week was Steve Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets (who happens to appear twice in these highlights).  Check out the video:

There is some seriously good goaltending in this set of highlights.  I love saves more than anything, I think.  Tim Thomas (Boston Bruins) was a bit of a superstar last week, that group effort by the Florida Panthers when netminder, Thomas Vokoun, was caught out of the net was incredible and, of course, I loved the clip of Miikka Kiprusoff (Calgary Flames) making the save as he fell on his face.
