Tonight’s game between the Calgary Flames and the visiting Chicago Blackhawks was nothing short of incredible. It had all of the elements of a good hockey game and it’s just what I needed tonight after watching the Montreal Canadiens get swept.
On a night when two normally exceptional goaltenders seemed to fall apart, the Flames skated away with a 6-4 victory over the Blackhawks. The Flames, at one point, had a 4-1 lead and blew it with sloppy, lazy skating. Also, I don’t know what was going on with Miikka Kiprusoff (CGY) or Nikolai Khabibulin (CHI) but between the two of …read more
Jokinen Works Hard While Flames Cool Off

As far as trades are concerned, Olli Jokinen is delivering all that the Calgary Flames could have asked for when they acquired him at the trade deadline. The man has managed to post eight goals and two assists in just six games. Unfortunately, his new team appears to be struggling. Despite Jokinen’s big numbers, they’ve just won two of their last six games.
I was over on Puck Daddy’s blog and he is blaming Jokinen for the team’s demise. I’m not sure I’d go that far but I will concede that the man has some extremely valid points. As he mentions, …read more
Calgary Beats Detroit in Incredible Comeback

Last night, the Calgary Flames played the Detroit Red Wings and there were a number of reasons why I didn’t watch all of it. The first problem is that the Flames have been sucking majorly on this road trip and the other is that I just hate Detroit. My son kept checking the score and my non-hockey loving husband kept complaining that he didn’t want to watch the game and, for once, I agreed with him. The last time we checked, there was about 8 minutes left in the game and the Wings were up 4-2.
I slumped down onto …read more

Oh man… I was happy about the rumors this morning involving the possible trade of Olli Jokinen from the Phoenix Coyotes until I found out that it meant the Calgary Flames would lose one of my favorite players, Matthew Lombardi. Along with Lombo, the Flames have sent Brendan Prust and a first-round draft pick.
I’m really unhappy to lose Lombo even though I am excited to see what Jokinen will do for the team. With captain, Jarome Iginla, and Mike Cammaleri doing so well right now, this could really be great if Jokinen fits well with the team but it could …read more
Coyotes Lose Jokinen to Shoulder Injury

Olli Jokinen had not missed any of the last 397 games but, unfortunately, the Phoenix Coyotes center will have to sit out at least two weeks due to a shoulder injury. His on-ice presence will definitely be missed since he is their second highest goal-scorer.
He was hurt when he was checked into the boards by defenseman Marc Methot (Columbus Blue Jackets) during the first period of the Coyote’s 3-2 win on Wednesday.
Coach, Wayne Gretzky, tried to keep things in perspective and put a positive spin on the situation: “We’re definitely going to miss what he brings to …read more
