Sidney Crosby Injured in Pre-season Game

Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious but Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, suffered a groin injury during the first period of their pre-season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and was forced to sit out for the remaining two periods.

Crosby really didn’t get a chance to play too much at all registering just three shifts and one minute 37 seconds.  “It’s better to stay off it. I’m hoping for just a few days,” Crosby said. “I’ve hurt my groin before. It’s not as bad. I think I missed five games with one last year. It’s just something you have to be …read more

Penguins Lose Gill to Shoulder Injury

The Pittsburgh Penguins will lose veteran defenceman, Hal Gill, for about 2-4 weeks due to a shoulder injury he suffered during Saturday’s loss against the Ottawa Senators.
This does not bode well for the team who has already have three d-men missing from the lineup: Ryan Whitney, who could return sometime next week, had to have foot surgery during the off-season, Sergei Gonchar is recovering from shoulder surgery (may not return until late February/early March 2009) and Phillippe Boucher is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.

They both stood to make $2.5 million before the trade so, I assume, that won’t change.  Should be interesting to …read more

Wings Take on Penguins on Versus Tonight

Tonight’s match up between the 2008 Stanley Cup winners, the Detroit Red Wings, and the team they defeated in their victory, the Pittsburgh Penguins, will be aired on Versus and I’m looking forward to it.  I’m hoping it’s an emotional, gritty game so I hope they deliver!
