Emery Perfect in Debut With Flyers

After last night’s performance, it’s very possible that goaltender Ray Emery is back from whatever hell he’s been living in since his time with the Ottawa Senators.
The netminder, who has been out of the NHL and playing in the Russian league because of his own bad behavior, managed to stop all 28 shots that he faced and helped the Philadelphia Flyers secure a 2-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Emery definitely sent a message in his debut with the Flyers by posting his ninth career shutout.  Looks like history repeated itself since the last three times that Emery has faced the …read more

Will Briere and The Flyers Rebound This Year?

Will Briere and The Flyers Rebound This Year?

There’s a lot going on with the Philadelphia Flyers and I’m wondering how it’s going to turn out.
Daniel Briere was limited to just 29 games in 2008-2009 due to injury so I’m sure he’s hoping to have a big season and I think it’s entirely possible.  Plus, if he ends up on a line with Claude Giroux and Simon Gagné they could be pretty effective.
The first thing that concerns me is that two of their 25-goal scorers from last season are gone (Joffrey Lupul and Mike Knuble) but the Giroux/Briere/Gagné could help fill that hole (that is, of course, …read more

Emery Excited About NHL Return

The Philadelphia Flyers have decided to take a risk with goaltender Ray Emery and it’s great to see him showing some gratitude.  Thankfully, he seems to be smartening up.  Following a morning skate with his new team, Emery said: ”I went through a point there where I didn’t appreciate the game and I had it taken away from me.  I realize that the game is a big part of my life and I want to embrace that part of my life. I’ve learned from what I went through and it’s a growing process.”

Emery was a real rising star when he …read more

Flyers Give Ray Emery One Year Contract

The unthinkable has happened – Ray Emery has been signed to an NHL team.  After his little freak out during his time with the Ottawa Senators, I seriously thought that his professional career might be over but time can heal all wounds, I guess.

The Philadelphia Flyers have offered the goaltender a one-year contract but the financial terms were not disclosed.  Of the deal, GM Paul Holmgren said: “We are extremely excited and happy to have entered into this agreement with Ray.  We believe Ray is a good, young goalie that has a unique blend of size, competitiveness and athleticism.”
That is …read more

Will The Flyers Bring Ray Emery Back to NHL?

Will The Flyers Bring Ray Emery Back to NHL?

I’ve been reading reports all morning that the Philadelphia Flyers are in talks with goaltender, Ray Emery.  Flyers General Manager, Paul Holmgren, confirmed the news.
“We have internal discussions about many players and their potential availability, including Ray Emery,” Holmgren said. “I have spoken to his agent a few times about Ray as well. Any further speculation about this would be very premature.”
Still, this is potentially HUGE news.  I really had all but written off the former Ottawa Senators netminder – not because he wasn’t good enough but because he couldn’t seem to get control over his personal problems (for …read more

Ray Emery Leaves Russian Team in Protest

Here’s some news about a former NHL player we don’t talk about much anymore.  Goaltender, Ray Emery, has left his Russian hockey club and is – get this – complaining that he’s been ripped off.

Apparently, he’s claiming that Mytishchi Atlant has been using the wrong exchange rate on his $2 million salary and says that the difference in pay is about 33% less than what it should be.  He hasn’t shown up since the KHL break last week so Mytishchi Atlant is threatening to take legal action.
Despite what I said about “Rayzor” a couple days ago, I’m disappointed to …read more

Sean Avery Preparing For a Comeback?

Sean Avery might be preparing to try to come back into the NHL.  Apparently, he might get cleared from the Behavioral Modification program he was sent to by the NHL and NHLPA after a string of bad behavior finally caught up with him following a press conference during which he called Dion Phaneuf’s (Calgary Flames) girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, “sloppy seconds.”  Avery and Cuthbert had dated in the past and many people felt that he had finally, officially crossed the line.
He’s expected to start skating early next week but it will be interesting to see if any teams are …read more
