Thinking of heading out to Boston to watch the 2010 NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park? If so, you might be interested to learn that the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers is offering a discount to hockey fans traveling to Beantown.

All you have to do is flash your Winter Classic ticket at the front desk and you will receive 25% off your room rate! Their current regular rate for a room on January 1, 2010 is $179+ tax. You can reserve a room by calling 1-800-225-2008 and the rate code is WCH.

Of course, there are some terms and conditions which are listed as follows:

Offer is subject to availability
Ticket must be for Winter Classic Hockey game, date 1/1/10 to receive discount
One ticket discount per guestroom, per night
Maximum length of stay is one night
Must show ticket to front desk at check-in/out to receive discount

I checked out the website and it looks like a pretty nice hotel so if you’re going to stay there anyway, why save some money on a room? I’m sure you’ll need a discount after buying anything to drink at the game!

Fenway Park To Host 2010 NHL Winter Classic

It’s the worst kept secret but, finally, it has been announced that Boston’s Fenway Park will host the 2010 Winter Classic which will feature a matchup between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers on January 1st.

Of course, NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, is already foaming at the mouth with excitement. He said: "a unique event deserves a unique venue, and we are delighted the Bruins and Flyers will renew their rivalry with the ‘Green Monster’ providing the backdrop. We welcome our fans, our teams, our sponsors and the great city of Boston to this annual celebration of our sport."

Don’t get me wrong – I think it’s a lot of fun to have these outdoor games but now the novelty is starting to wear off a little bit. I’m still going to watch and I’m still going to get into the game but I won’t be as excited as I was the first time.

Calgary Could Host 2010 Winter Classic

The 2010 NHL Winter Classic will be a double-header next year. The first game will take place at Fenway Park with the Boston Bruins facing off against either the Washington Capitals or the Philadelphia Flyers.

A second game will happen and, according to the Calgary Herald, the Calgary Flames are being considered as the hosts. If chosen, the NHL could hold the game at McMahon Stadium. The venue’s manager, John Haverstock, was quoted as saying: “I have heard discussions. I guess it’s a possibility, but to say it’s close to reality is not correct. It’s just so far been discussions. I think it would be very cool for the city. Logistically, it’s possible. We had an artificial-ice surface at McMahon before at the closing ceremonies for the 1988 Olympics. So it can be done.”

Flames owner, Harley Hotchkiss, and president, Ken King, have also confirmed that there have been some “discussions.”

What do you think? I don’t really like the idea of having two Winter Classic games in the same day to begin with but, of course, as a Calgary Flames fan, it would be cool to have the event here in Alberta.

2010 NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park

The location for the 2010 NHL Winter Classic has been announced – Fenway Park! The athletic venue in Boston, Massachusetts is the oldest current Major League Baseball stadium and has been in operation since April 20, 1912. It has served as the home of the Boston Red Sox from the day it was opened.

I have really enjoyed the last two Winter Classics – 2008 at the Ralph Wilson Stadium (Buffalo Sabres vs. Pittsburgh Penguins) and 2009 at Wrigley Field (Chicago Blackhawks vs. Detroit Red Wings) – so I’m really looking forward to this. The Boston Bruins will host the game but their opponent has not been named.

2009 NHL Winter Classic Game Highlights

In case you missed the 2009 NHL Winter Classic this past weekend, here are some game highlights. It took place at Chicago’s Wrigley Field where the Chicago Blackhawks faced off (and lost) against the Detroit Red Wings. It was a lot of fun and you could see that the players had a good time.

I thought the rink/arena turned out extremely well and the weather was pretty decent too (I’m glad it didn’t snow this year!).

Red Wings Beat Blackhawks 6-4 at 2009 NHL Winter Classic

The 2009 NHL Winter Classic went off without a hitch today and the rink looked amazing! The Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field 6-4 today.

I had a lot of fun watching it but I had to keep reminding myself that this was an outdoor game because the rink and visual clarity (over last year’s snow-fest) was just perfect. Watch the highlights:

2009 NHL Winter Classic on Today!

It’s time for the 2009 NHL Winter Classic!!! The game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks airs today at 1pm ET from the famous Wrigley Field.

A lot of effort has been put into the event and I’m curious to see how close the actual rink will look when compared with the rendering. If you’re interested, check out these videos from the 2008 Winter Classic.

You may not be able to go to Wrigley Field but you can still get all the Winter Classic gear. Just visit the official NHL shop for more details!

NHL Winter Classic Rink Rendering – Video

With planned seating for about 35,000 fans, the 2009 NHL Winter Classic should be huge! If the rink ends up looking anything like the rendering in this video, it should be great. I enjoyed it last year but it snowed so much that it was a little hard to see what was going on (plus I was nervous that someone was going to get hurt).
