WOW!! How exciting. Despite the fact that the Detroit Pistons are in the NBA Playoffs, it was the hockey action that viewers in Motown were interested in. Even more amazing – it marked the best overnight rating for a third game of the Stanley Cup finals in six years. Unfortunately, for those dedicated Wings fans, the Pittsburgh Penguins were victorious over the Detroit Red Wings.
Here are some quick facts about the ratings:
- Game 3 garnered a 2.8 national rating and an 18.2 rating in Detroit, beating out the 15.9 rating for the Pistons’ matchup with the Boston Celtics.
- The first three games of the Finals have made this the highest-rated and most-watched opening games of the Stanley Cup finals since Detroit faced the Carolina Hurricanes in 2002.
- The rating represented an 87% increase over last year’s Game 3 between the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators.
Go hockey!
