Talk about a great extension! Nicklas Lidstrom has signed a 2-year extension with the Detroit Red Wings that is reportedly worth $15 million! This will keep the valuable defenseman with the hockey club through the 2009-10 season. He’s 37 years old and still making that kind of money! The Red Wings know how to treat their players and keep them for a long time. "Nick has been the best defenseman in the world for several years," Detroit general manager Ken Holland said. "He’s a great captain and role model who does everything right, both on and off the ice."
Here are some Nick Lidstrom "greatest hits" as listed in the article:
Winner of five Norris Trophies, the 37-year-old Swede is the highest-scoring defenseman in Red Wings history with 900 points in 15 seasons. He was picked by Detroit in the third round of the 1989 draft.
In 1,212 regular-season NHL games, Lidstrom has 205 goals and 695 assists. He has 39 goals and 97 assists in 192 playoff games.
The eight-time NHL All-Star has three goals and 29 in 36 games this season. He has points in 21 of the last 28 games.

I’d certainly say he’s worth it, although a consideration to make also is that he’s a defenceman in a league that at the moment is somewhat starved for top-notch D-men.
