2007 AL Cy Young Poll

We’ve talked about the AL Cy Young here and here, but I’m thinking maybe it’s time for a poll? After all, we are having so much fun with the NL (write-in candidate Jimmy Rollins has overtaken Matt Holliday and David Wright) and AL MVP award polls.
My preseason pick? I went with the pack and chose Johan Santana. Right now, I’d say that if one of the guys from Cleveland (C.C. Sabathia, Fausto Carmona) doesn’t win it, there’s a problem. But I could be wrong.
What do you think? Feel free to leave comments supporting your choice if you’re so inclined…

Other than the fact that Josh Beckett has one more win than CC How can anyone build a legit case that Beckett deserves the CY.. CC should win in a landslide..
Sabathia over Beckett in a landslide? Are you kidding me???
In fact, I’d say that Josh Beckett was the better pitcher this season, although I’ll admit it’s a close gap between them.
I mean, did you watch either of their head-to-head games in the ALCS–or any of Beckett’s starts in the 2007 Playoffs, for that matter?
Sabathia pitched 40 more innings with basically the same stats as Beckett, except CC had a sick K/BB ratio. ERA and WHIP are about the same. CC should win easily.
Good call, Terry. The extra 40 innings should be enough for Sabathia, but with the voters, you never know.
Ryguy: I’m sure you know this, but voting takes place before the playoffs start, so none of Beckett’s postseason work — fine though it may have been — will be considered.
Sabathia has more strikeouts 209 to 194, more CG’s 4 to 1, a lower ERA 3.21 to 3.27, more innings pitched 241 to 200, and less run support than Beckett. Based on the fact that this is a regular season award, I think Sabathia wins it hands down.
