2007 NL Rookie of the Year Poll

You know the drill by now. The question before the court is, Who would get your vote for NL Rookie of the Year and why?
In my mind, this is a two-man race between Milwaukee “third baseman” Ryan Braun and Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Guys like Hunter Pence and Josh Hamilton would have merited serious consideration had they remained healthy all season. Actually, you could make a strong case for Pence anyway.
Similarly, right-handers Yovani Gallardo and Tim Lincecum might have been part of the conversation if they’d been called up a little sooner. Micah Owings? The crazy thing about him is that he adds value as a pitcher and as a hitter.
Go on, be heard…
And then there’s Owings’ teammate, Chris Young. He’ll get some consideration for the 32 homers and 27 stolen bases — very sexy. Young might have as promising a future as anyone among the current crop of rookies, but that .295 OBP is tough to ignore.
So. I ask again: Who do you like, and why?

I’m convinced it’s Tulo, with Braun’s glove getting the assist. That Brewers infield is brutal. Chris Young was not helpful offensively, but he did play center field and he played it well. Here’s hoping he can continue to improve offensively.
With the appropriate small sample caveat, I was alarmed at how uncomfortable Braun and Prince Fielder looked at their positions when the Padres played in Milwaukee over the final weekend. Obviously you have to run those guys out there every day because of their bats, but that was ugly.
I think its been Troy all along after his slow start to where he is now ?There is no camparing his numbers and the unasisted triple play that he turned to who should get a well deserves it
If you think Tulow is the ROY then you are a complete tool. He doesn’t have the numbers of Braun and he had a FULL SEASON! Since when did defense matter in a ROY or MVP vote? All anyone cares about is the bats, that is why Braun wins it.
Ryan Braun hands down. I mean seriously, if you can come up to the major leagues that fast after being drafted, and do that amount of damage, your doning amazing. I really don’t think his production is going to go down. All I can see for Ryan is Big Numbers. He is the real deal. Yes he had some errors out on the diamond, but he also did have his share of great stops and plays. If he doesn’t win ROY, then something is seriously wrong. If he doesn’t, people are going to be overlooking what was the greatest rookie season (MINUS 7 WEEKS) in pretty much the history of baseball. And then to lead the Milwaukee team in batting average as well and was one homerun shy of last years Brewers homerun king (Bill Hall). I didn’t see Troy leading his team in anything. Troy has had a good rookie year, not a Ryan Braun style rookie season. Ryan Braun is the National League Rookie of the Year.
Maybe its just me, but the fact that Ryan Braun had a quarter of Troy Tulowitzki’s error total in ONE GAME alone takes him out of consideration for me. The offensive numbers are insane, but the guy is BEYOND atrocious defensively, in addition to the fact that he put up meaningless numbers on a team that didnt even win a division that could be described as meager, at best. Troy is still playing, had beyond respectable offensive numbers, and doesnt make a mistake…..ever. Tulo for ROY, hands down.
Troy Tulowitzki is hands down the Rookie of the Year. You want to talk about him leading his team in any category, lets really break it down. Other than Fielder, Tulo had more Runs and RBI’s than any other Brewer. Now leading the Rockies categories is pretty tough to do when you look at the guys ahead of him. Holiday (N.L. MVP), Hawpe (Lead the NL in RBI’s for a RF), and Atkins (2nd in the NL in RBI’s for a 3B). But there is one category that Tulo is leading and it’s not a team category but a MLB number. Tulo is currently the leading candidate for a Gold Glove award at Shortstop. A Rookie leading all SS’s in the Majors for his defensive ability. I think Tulowitzki deserves both the N.L. Rookie of the Year and a Gold Glove at Shortstop.
First of all this is an award for regular season performance. The fact that the rockies made the post season is by a TEAM effort, definately wasn’t a one man show by Tulo. That being said, let’s look at the stats. Braun- .324BA, 34HR, 97RBI // Tulo- .295BA, 24HR, 99RBI. This looks to me that Braun outplayed Tulo. Not to mention Braun didn’t even start playing until late May. Now who is the much better player of the two? Looks like a no brainer to me…..
It’s a sad evolution of baseball when we are so enamoured with the long ball that we overlook the finer points of the game. Braun really IS atrocious on defense. If he wins over Tulo, it’ll be a travesty. It’s ROOKIE of the year, not HITTER in his first year. Spout all the batting numbers you want, but if you look at all the OTHER numbers that make up a player’s game, you’d be singing another tune.
If you haven’t watched Tulo turn a triple play all by himself, I suggest you go to the MLB website and check it out.
Consider this an unbiased opinion because I’m a life-long Astros fan and would love to say Bam Bam (Pence) should be ROY, but you can’t argue with Tulo.
tulo all the way for starters braun is older # 2 his 324 ba dos’nt count why mlb has a rule 3-1 rule think im bs goto mlb.com if braun played all year he would have made 40e braun wins roy for hitting 34 hr baseball nothing but a joke
Ok people you are right, Braun had more errors then Tulo, but then again you can have no errors in a season, but that does not win games. Offensive numbers will always make a much bigger impact then defensive numbers on MLB awards, because when all is said and done, it is offense that wins a game not defense. So stop crying and deal with it people.
Somebody call the POLICE! The Rockies have been robbed in the 2007 MLB Awards.
Tulo had the most stolen from him! Rookie of the Year and a Gold Glove Award at SS. Braun over Tulo…. there are lots of reasons for both guys to win the award, but Tulo did the most for his team and that’s what the award should be about in baseball. Offensive and defensive numbers were outstanding for a Rookie and his leadership on the team showed that he will be a great player in this league. He certainly was a big contributing factor in getting the team into the postseason.
Next, Rollins over Tulo for a Gold Glove, now that really hurts badly. Tulo had the numbers hands down at the position. The BBWAA missed that one completely.
Holliday not getting the NL MVP…….. once again that was not right either. His numbers were huge and he is a pivotal team leader.
Hurdle took a bunch of young kids and a couple veterans and led them to the World Series. To not give him the NL Manager Award seems like a serious injustice. He did things in games that made everyone stop and scratch their head, but when it was all said and done it looked like the work of a pure genius, especially when they swept thru the Divisional Series.
