713 In The Books…How Sad.
A Jon Lieber fastball hit the upper-deck and is now the ball before the tie-ball…he’s one tiny swing away from tying history. I couldn’t be more sad. Seriously, it makes me want to cry a little. I know, I know, there’s no crying in baseball, but seriously it breaks my heart thinking of big Babe’s 2nd place record dropping to 3rd.
Regardless, it is gonna happen, unless Barry did the classy thing and just retired today. Right now. That way he’d be 3rd on the list, and even though his 3rd place title will probably end up saddled with an asterisks, it’d be a heck of a lot better seeing that little * on #3, instead of #2, or God Forbid, #1.
We’ll see what happens I guess, but let the record show, I vote for a shocking mid-season retiring. Who’s with me?!
