Knuckle Curve

All-Time Gold Glove Team

Speaking of defense, as we were earlier today, the all-time Gold Glove team has been announced. Most of these guys make sense to me, although I’m a little surprised to see Wes Parker at first base over the likes of Keith Hernandez and J.T. Snow.

Then again, I never saw Parker play, so what do I know?

  1. the mayor says:

my thoughts exactly geoff… have you seen the movie about this all?? http://imkeithhernandez.com

  2. Hal says:

Hernandez DID revolutionize the position but I gotta tell you, WES PARKER was unbelievable. Nothing, I mean nothing got past him. He moved so fluidly – so effortlessly. He deserves this recognition.

  3. Geoff Young says:

Mayor: No, I haven’t seen the movie; thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks, Hal, for the input. Like I said, I never saw Parker play. Hernandez and Snow are the best I’ve ever seen, but my “personal file” only goes back to the late-’70s.

  4. James says:

Have to throw in my vote for Mickey Stanley in the outfield.

  5. Geoff Young says:

James: Ah, there is a name I haven’t thought of in a while. He and Paul Blair from that era both deserve mention, as does Cesar Geronimo from slightly later.

  6. James says:

Mick did not have the bat, though, like Paul Blair did. But sharing the outfield with Willie Horton, Jim Northrup, and Al Kaline kind of made up for that.
