Vladimir Guerrero, the slugging outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, is leaving the team’s current road trip to return to California to have further examinations on his right pectoral muscle. The native of the Dominican Republic has been slowed by this chest injury since spring training.

A recent MRI indicated that Guerrero is suffering from a strain. The team is sending him home so that the team doctors can make sure there is no more further damage. While the team doesn’t seem to believe the injury is serious, they want to be extra cautious to ensure that he will be healthy for the duration of the season.

Guerrero insists that the injury isn’t bothering his ability to bat, although he does admit that his chest injury isn’t allowing him to be effective out in the field. He also said that the muscle had been getting more swollen in recent days.

On the season, the 34-year-old is hitting .250 with one homer and three RBIs in 32 at bats.
