As the Managers Turn: Piniella In, Macha Out

The Chicago Cubs hired Lou Piniella as their new manager on Monday. According to the Chicago Tribune, the contract is 3 years for $10 million. Thoughts on Piniella? I’d offer some, but I’m too busy enjoying the photo collage over at Goat Riders of the Apocalypse.
And out here on the left coast, the Oakland A’s fired manager Ken Macha just days after the A’s were eliminated from the ALCS. Blez at Athetics Nation has a pretty solid take on that move. Sounds like Macha may not have been real popular among players. Speculation on who might replace Macha centers on current A’s bench coach Bob Geren or possibly third base coach Ron Washington, who also is reported to be a candidate for the managerial opening in Texas.
