Martin Gandy at Talking Chop has posted an interview with Atlanta Braves first baseman/outfielder Scott Thorman. In it, Thorman talks about how his experience at the World Baseball Classic this spring helped prepare him for the 2006 season, the differences between first base and the outfield, and how he’s made the adjustment from everyday player in the minors to a guy coming off the bench in the majors:
It’s a tough role for any player to come of the bench and get a big hit in the eighth kind of thing, but I’ve enjoyed it somewhat because you get to take a step back and really watch the game and how it unfolds and see the way it’s taking shape.
I always enjoy these interviews with lesser known players. They often have a different perspective on the game than do the stars.
