Brewers Sign Counsell

December 2, 2006 by Geoff Young

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed veteran infielder Craig Counsell to a 2-year, $6 million deal. The folks at Brew Crew Ball are, understandably, not thrilled with this one.

Once again, the current free-agent market baffles. How are the values of Counsell and Royce Clayton so disparate? Counsell is a slightly better defender and gets on base at a higher clip, but if Clayton is worth $1.5 million for 1 year, how in anyone’s vision of reality is Counsell worth twice as much for twice as long?
