Dodgers Sign Lieberthal, Schmidt

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed catcher Mike Lieberthal and right-hander Jason Schmidt. The Lieberthal deal is for 1 year at an undisclosed amount, with a club option for 2008. Schmidt’s contract is said to be worth $47 million over 3 years — a shade on the pricey side for a 34-year-old pitcher who battled injury problems as recently as 2005, but not terrible in the current market.
