Giants Sign Kline

December 9, 2006 by Geoff Young

The San Francisco Giants have re-signed left-handed reliever Steve Kline to a 2-year deal worth $3.5 million. Kline is 34 years old, durable, and effective. He has appeared in 65 or more games in each of the past nine seasons, and his ERA has been better than league average in all but one of those seasons (2005).

The Kline signing is a bargain for the Giants. Southpaws Mike Stanton and Jamie Walker, who are inferior pitchers to Kline, are getting more money from the Reds and Orioles, respectively.
