Is The Big Unit Losing It?
Remember when Randy Johnson was the scariest guy ever to play baseball? Remember the mullet and the scowl? Remember the 95mph fastball over John Kruk’s head in an ALL-STAR GAME?! Where’d that guy go?
Now, I expect some response to this, as I got a great response to a Barry Bond’s article I did a few days ago, so help me out here, do you feel like the Big Unit has lost his Big Unit’ness? Is he more of a Medium Unit now? Last night he gave up 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings in the Red Sox 14-3 laugher over the Yankees.

You know the unithas just lost a step or two apparently thats what happens when you get old. he started in tha majors throwing high 90’s maybe even a 100 but now in the low 90’s and just a power pitcher in the past. you cant be a power pitcher and trow in the low 90’s thats where the control pitchers throw look at the start maddux is having thowing the same speed as Johnson but with 1/5 the era.
I agree…Johnson’s whole thing was being a power pitcher, throwing heat, and scaring the crap out of the hitter…who’s gonna be scared of an old man throwing low 90’s and lacking the complete control to put the ball exactly where he wants it.

Age might be part of it but I think the move to the American League has also been a big part of the Unit shrinkage. Maybe he should bring back the mullet.
Even so, he’s still a scary enough looking dude to rank up there with Joey Cora, Sam Cassell, Pat Ewing and Amelie Mauresmo on the ugliest pro athletes ever 1st team……. Vlade Divac gets honorable mention.
Bring Back The Mullet! I agree, he’s definitely 1st Team All-World for Ugliest Athlete. I think Vlade is just ON the team, not honorable mention. I think the real battle is between Johnson and Patrick Ewing for the leader of the whole team.
Just thinking of Ewing makes me scared.
