The Chicago White Sox traded starter Javier Vazquez to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday in a five-player deal. Also headed to Atlanta from Chicago is reliever Boone Logan. In return, the White Sox are reportedly receiving a package that include Jo-Jo Reyes, minor leaguer Brett Lillibridge and another minor league prospect.
The 32-year-old Vazquez often showed vast potential for the White Sox but also often was frustrating — especially when it came to pitching in clutch situations. All told, Vazquez was 12-16 last season with a 4.67 ERA. In 2007, Vazquez was much better — finishing 15-8 with a 3.74 ERA.
Logan has struggled in his three-year career and 2008 was no different. He finished with an ERA of 5.95 in 55 appearances. The 24-year-old lefty will try to get his career turned around with the Braves
The biggest name going to the White Sox is Reyes. Reyes was once upon a time a very highly regarded talent, however he’s struggled in his two years in the big leagues. In 2008, he had a 3-11 record to go with an ERA of 5.81.
Vazquez will join Atlanta’s starting rotation, while Reyes has a good chance of doing the same in Chicago.
