Joba Chamberlain Makes First Start for Yankees

Joba Chamberlain, the hard throwing right-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, made his first career start on Tuesday. Prior to his first start, the 22-year-old Chamberlain was used primarily as a setup man.

He only got through 2.1 innings in which he gave up two runs (one earned), one hit, four walks and struck out three batters. Chamberlain could have gone longer but the Yankees had their youngster on a strict pitch count.

For now, it appears as if Chamberlain will remain as a starter. The Yankees will slowly raise his pitch count limit but don’t expect him to be able to throw a ton of pitches this year. If he struggles in the starting role, the Yankees won’t hesitate in putting him back in their bullpen.
