After Shane Victorino got hit by a bear in Wrigley Field while making a grab in the outfield, he said that he planned to file charges against the fan of the Chicago Cubs who threw the beer. John Macchione, 21, has been identified as the beer thrower.
Macchione, who lives in the Illinois city of Bartlett, faces two counts — one for illegal conduct within a sports facility and the other one for battery. There has yet to be a public comment by Macchione.
Right after the game, Victorino talked about how disappointed he was at the fan’s action.
“It’s one of those things that happens,” said Victorino, “and I just want to make sure that guy gets what’s due.”
The Cubs as an organization were very apologetic after the game.
Said Crane Kenney, the Cubs chairman: “It shouldn’t have happened here. It’s not a good reflection on our city or organization. We’re going to do whatever we can to make sure that things are made right here.”
The incident occured during Wednesday’s game and was somewhat overshadowed by the return of Pedro Martinez. Despite the thrown beer, the Phillies were able to capture a 12-5 win.
