KnuckleCurve.com is obviously a fan of knuckleball pitchers. The latest knuckleball pitcher for the Atlanta Braves is an interesting story. Lance Niekro, the son of Joe Niekro, has been signed by the Braves to a minor league contract and will try to make the team as a knuckleball pitcher.
Lance Niekro was originally a first base prospect when he was drafted in the second round. He tried for many years to become an everyday player on the big league level but he could never quite stick. After getting cut by the Houston Astros last season, Niekro decided to retire at the age of 30.
But during the offseason, Niekro was approached by the Braves. They asked him if he considered becoming a knuckleball pitcher. Niekro agreed and is now working out with his legendary knuckleball throwing uncle Phil Niekro.
If Lance Niekro can stick as a knuckleball pitcher, that’d be an amazing story for the 2009 baseball season.

He has the potential, he has the heart, he has the teacher. Uncle Phil is not just a plus – he’s an inspiration !!!
