Knuckle Curve

Lousy Hitters

Billfer at Detroit Tigers Weblog takes a look at the worst hitters in Tigers history. He uses a variant of the suckage index measurement that Batter’s Box had employed to identify the worst pitchers in Blue Jays history.

So, in other words, I’m not the only one who gets a kick out of freakishly bad performances. ;-)

A lot of the guys on Billfer’s list are old-timers, but some players from the past 20 years make his top 50: Deivi Cruz, Ramon Santiago, Brian Hunter, Gary Pettis, Brandon Inge (twice), Shane Halter (who?), and Ray Knight (I had no idea he spent time in Detroit). Of course, the Tigers were able to flip Santiago on the unsuspecting Mariners for Carlos Guillen, which takes a little of the edge off that one.

Guillen for Santiago. What were the Mariners thinking? Eh, probably the same thing they were thinking when they gave away Rafael Soriano for Horacio Ramirez.

But that’s a whole other story…
