Mariners Sign Batista

December 15, 2006 by Geoff Young

The Seattle Mariners have signed right-hander Miguel Batista to a 3-year, $24 million deal. Batista, who turns 36 in February, is coming off his first 200+ inning season. He’s a little on the old and mediocre side, but his contract is no worse than the one Philadelphia gave Adam Eaton. This probably doesn’t offer much consolation to M’s fans right now, but what are you gonna do?

Wow… The Mariners have made some puzzling moves. No worse than the Eaton deal? High praise indeed.

Hey, I could’ve compared it to the Meche deal. ;-)

You’re right, though, Seattle is having a weird off-season so far. I have no idea what to make of the Vidro rumors — seems like the M’s might want to give Snelling a shot, but who knows.
