Mariners Sign Reitsma

The Seattle Mariners have signed right-handed reliever Chris Reitsma to a 1-year, $2.05 million deal. Reitsma is coming off elbow surgery and is expected to take over the Mariners’ setup role, which opened up when the team shipped Rafael Soriano to Atlanta.

Reitsma, 29 years old, posted an 8.68 ERA over 28 innings for the Braves in 2006. His career ERA of 4.58 is slightly below league average over that period. I don’t see anything in Reitsma’s record that suggests he’ll be an adequate replacement for Soriano. Guess we’ll have to wait and see…
