MLB Completes Sweep in Japan

Jose Reyes hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th to propel MLB to a 5-3 victory over Nippon Professional Baseball in the Japan All-Star Series finale. Ryan Howard, who had homered in each of the first four games, collected two more hits and was named series MVP. Bill Hall and David Wright also added two hits each, while Japan’s Norichika Aoki and Shuichi Murata homered in a losing cause.

Even though MLB swept the series, the games proved to be quite competitive. Game 3 was a blowout, and Game 4 ended up at 7-2 (although it was tied entering the eighth inning). The other three contests were decided by two runs or less.

Whatever the outcome, it’s good that MLB is making an effort to spread the gospel of baseball around the world. Because, really, is there anything better than hanging out at the ballpark?
