More Prospects for 2007

Bryan Smith has penned a piece called “Eight Prospects to Watch in 2007″ over at Hardball Times (full disclosure: I am a contributor to Hardball Times). This one isn’t a Top x list; rather, it’s a look at some promising young players who might have flown under the radar and who are worth keeping an eye on in the future.

The one name in here I’m somewhat familiar with is San Diego Padres first baseman Kyle Blanks. The main thing to know about Blanks is that he’s 6′6″, 270 lbs. I haven’t seen him play yet, but I’ve heard good things. He’s expected to start the season at Class-A Lake Elsinore, which is about 70 minutes north of where I live. With luck, maybe I’ll get a chance to watch him in action.
