This poll has been running for a while, but it’s gotten a little closer than I’d expected. If you haven’t voted yet, please feel free to do so. Here are some previous entries that might help you make a decision:
One of these days I’ll get around to looking at the American League race. Maybe even before the season ends.
[Update, Sep 23, 2007: As promised, here is the AL MVP poll. ]

Matt Holliday should win the NL MVP this year hands down. The only player who compares to him this year in stats is Prince Fielder who is batting a good 30 points less and also behind by several rbi’s and runs. One might add that Holliday’s stats are padded because he is playing at Coors Field but if you take the time you will see while away his stats are not to shabby to say the least.
Matt Holliday 2007 NL MVP!!
How can you argue agains Matt Holiday for MVP?? Check the stats, but also know that he is a huge lift to the Rockies ballclub just being there. He is also great defensively and is the reason the Rockies are in their first playoff hunt (one game back in wildcard) in a decade. Show me a player more valuable to his team and I’ll vote against Matt.
Fielder’s only chance is that he has more home runs. Give me a break. If Holliday swung for the fence constantly he would have 50 hrs too. He is an all around better hitter with many of his home runs straight line drives leaving the park in record time. RBI’s baby not just HR’s
david wright all the way
nl mvp def.would go to matt holiday if the rockies were a winning team. david wright is going to win because hes amazing at the clutch and is on a winning team, the ny mets.
I am pleased to see that you all are out of your mind. Jimmy Rollins is the very definition of MVP! And oh, by the way-he plays for a winning team considering his team to not fold like a bad chair. He played in all the games this year and was the man 20-20-20-20! without him the phillies would not be going to the playoffs so when you all take your heads out of your butt and realize what MVP means spell it with J-Roll baby!
Uh, Wright wasn’t on a playoff team. It’s going to come down to Rollins and Holiday and more likely it’ll come down to if the Rockies make the Wild Card tonight against the Padres.
Jimmy Rollins…no question…holliday couldnt even tag the plate tonight…Rollins carried the Phillies when they lost both Howard and Utley and started every game this year. No way should Holliday get it over Rollins, Rollins is 10 times better.
Matt Holliday hands down!
Holliday became the fifth player in the last 59 years to lead the National League in both batting average and RBIs! He also led the NL in hits (216), total bases (382), extra-base hits (92) and doubles (50)
Give Matt his Holliday PAY!!! MVP!
I was able to watch Holliday play last night in the tiebreaker game, and without doubt he is a great player, however, an everday player like Rollins who is not only a offensive producer but a key contributer on the defensive side of the game. It is without question that a shortstop is much more valuable than an outfielder. He is the infield general and gets much more touches than an outfielder. I am not taking away from how good Holliday is I am just saying that Rollins brings much more to his team than some good offense. He is a complete player that is relied upon in every way. It is easy to see that he is more important when you look at the relation of touches he gets to the touches that Holliday gets. MVP is not only offense but defense and consistancy!! Once again just look at Rollins and you see the total package which is what the MVP is all about. Good luck to all the Players but this award is Rollins’
holiday stats don’t match jimmy
Hmm… MVP of the NL? Prince Fielder… I love the guy and he can fricken smash the crap out of the ball. And being runner-up with 5 shy of being Home Run King. Thats really something to say. Especially coming from his Sophmore Year.
I’m a Brewer fan and my vote is for Holliday. You can say Coors is a hitters park but not as much as it was previously. Prince just finished only his second year, and he’s still learning to hit. Fielder’s future is huge to say the least. But this year Matt is MVP.
I am a big New york mets fan and it would be great if David wright could win it. But with that said Jimmy rollins has great numbers yes but, Matt holliday carried his team to the playoffs with incredible numbers. The phillies made it because of a met collapse not Jimmy rollins incredible play. What I’m saying is the phillies would have made it without jimmy rollins in those last 17 games thanks to the mets. But the Rockies wouldn’t without Holliday.
Holliday hit 25 Home Runs at home and 11 on the road. He batted .376 at home and .301 on the road. He had 82 RBI at home and 55 on the road. There’s no question that Coors is STILL a huge advantage, just look at the Rockies team stats. 103 home runs at home, 68 on the road. .298 average at home, .261 on the road.
You let Prince Fielder play in Colorado half the time and he would have broken the single season record.
Well, I hate to tell you I told you so, but, wait, no I don’t! I told you so….. JimMVP Rollins deserved to win it, and did. He was crucial to his teams success and no matter what anyone says was as deserving or more deserving than everyone else, and the fact that he did it as a lead off hitter is even more impressive. If you can’t see that he is the man because of your biased opinions than that is your problem. There is no question that Holliday was a good candidate but he plays left field for pete sake, Rollins is at the most crucial position on the field and had good numbers at the plate as well as on the bases. ENOUGH SAID. MVP!!!!!!!!
