Orioles Sign Huff

January 4, 2007 by Geoff Young

The Baltimore Orioles have signed third baseman Aubrey Huff to a 3-year, $20 million deal. Huff also plays first base and left field, where he’s expected to see most of his playing time with the Orioles.

Does that bother the 31-year-old left-handed masher? From the article:

Huff said he doesn’t care where he plays as long as he is in the lineup. “My passion is hitting.”

Huff isn’t the hitter he was a few years ago — he quietly put together a real nice run from 2002 to 2004 — but he’s still fairly solid. If Huff plays third base and returns to his earlier form, this could be a nice deal for Baltimore. If he ends up in left field and hits like he has the past couple years, then maybe a 1-year deal with incentives for someone like Cliff Floyd or Ryan Klesko would have been a better option.
