We’ll be liveblogging the draft next week here at Knuckle Curve. With one of the top draft-eligible pitchers signing as a draft-and-follow at the deadline (and making Padres fans very happy in the process), now is as good a time as any to bust out a sneak peek at our draft capsules.
Matt Latos, the San Diego Padres’ 11th-round pick in 2006, agreed to terms late Wednesday evening. Had the Padres failed to sign Latos, he would have entered the 2007 draft, where he was projected as a late first-round pick.

What they’re saying:
Latos has a mid-90s fastball, a hard breaking ball and a promising changeup. He immediately becomes one of the best — if not the best — pitching prospects in the Padres system.

So is there any chance Latos will end up in Eugene to start his pro career?? Being that I’m in Medford, and Eugene is just a 3 hour drive up North and I love the NWL I’d love to see what he’s got.
